TIME CAPSULE OPENING 2:00

The council's time capsule was originally buried along the edge of the parade field during the 25th Anniversary of Camp Powhatan in 1975. It contained letters from dignitaries and old-time scouters, as well as early narratives and documents which explained the rich history of our earliest and then-current camps. When the 50th Anniversary gathering took place in 2000, the time capsule was opened in front of an eager crowd of more than 150 former staffers, friends and supporters. Despite the secure PVC walls and end-caps, the presence of some moisture in the capsule (and minor damage to a few photos) led organizers to re-seal the capsule and store it for the next 25 years in the camp warehouse, where it has been kept unopened in a locked area. Most of the original documents have been scanned for safe-keeping, and it is a big mystery as to what may have been added to the capsule in 2000.
